Researchers at Clemson University in South Carolina have developed a device that will alert people while eating as to how much bites they have taken in a given time.
The device called as a pedometer for eating will count the number of morsels its wearer has nibbled while watching television or absorbed in his/her favourite match in the stadium.
The Bite Counter is worn like a watch and tracks a pattern of wrist-roll motion to identify when the wearer has taken a food bite. The device would help weight conscious people to control their eating habit and avoid obesity. The prototypes of the device are being tested on 20 people.
The researchers’ team will store logs of bite-count activities, which will provide researchers baseline data for evolving guidelines for new weight-loss studies.
They are optimistic about its marketing in near future alongside other health measuring gadgets.
