New currency notes unveiled

Bangladesh Bank (BB) released new currency notes of Taka 2, 5, 100, 500 and 1,000 denominations with the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Thursday.
The new currencies with Bangabandhu’s portrait were formally released by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a function at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in the morning, marking 40 years of our independence.
The new Tk 2 note bears the signature of Finance Secretary Dr Mohammad Tareq while the currencies of other denominations have the signature of Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman.
The new Tk 2 currency note has the portrait of Bangabandhu along with the image of the National Mausoleum on the front left side.
The currency notes of Tk 5, 100, 500 and 1,000 have the portrait of Bangabandhu with the National Mausoleum on the background and the monogram of Bangladesh Bank. Bangabandhu’s portrait and the picture of National
Mausoleum are displayed on the left side the notes made with synthetic-mixed paper.
On the opposite side of Tk 2 currency note has the picture of Central Shaheed Minar, Tk 5 note has the picture of Naogaon Kusumba Mosque and Tk 100 note has the picture of Star Mosque. Tk 500 note displays the agricultural activities and Tk 1,000 note contains the image of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Briefing newsmen after the function, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad said the existing banknotes of the same denominations will also remain in circulation as usual.
