British Council comes under Taliban attack

As the British Council came under militants' multiple attacks Friday morning, seven people including two foreigners have been killed and five others sustained injuries, an official said.

Earlier another official on the condition of anonymity said six people including two police and four suicide bombers had been killed.

He also added that one Afghan police and four foreigners were injured in the blasts and gun shots.

A group of suicide bombers stormed the cultural center of Britain -- the British Council at around 5:30 local time (0100 GMT) and still the security forces are trying to bring the situation under control and clear the site of any possible insurgents if hidden around inside the compound.

Hashmat Stanikzai, the police spokesman in Kabul, told Xinhua that the target of the attackers is the British Council in Kartai Parwan area, adding the British Council helps Afghans to learn English language.

Meantime, Zabihullah Mujahid, who claims to speak for the Taliban outfit in talks with media from an unknown location, claimed responsibility, saying a group of militants equipped with car bomb, suicide vests and small arms targeted the British guest house inflicting huge casualties including Afghans and foreigners.
