An Indian-origin man and his wife were on Wednesday found murdered in their home in Birmingham, the West Midland police said. The murder has created shock waves through the local British Asian community.
The couple were identified as Avtar Singh-Kolar (62), and Carole (58). The police added that their son is a police officer, who found the bodies. The couple had four children and eight grandchildren, had been married for 40 years and were described as a “close-knit, loving family.”
Superintendent Richard Baker said their bodies were found by their son, a serving police officer of West Midlands force, when he went to the house on Wednesday morning after he was not able to reach them on the phone. Police suspect that they were assaulted and appeared to have died of their injuries.
“It was obvious from the scene the couple had been assaulted and had more than likely died of their injuries. At 7-15 pm last night, a family member spoke to Carole and there were no issues. At 8 this morning, their son went round to find the couple dead at the scene,” Mr. Baker said.
Police said the investigation was still at a preliminary stage and they were keeping an “open mind” about the motive. They are appealing for information that might help in tracking down the couple’s killer or killers. The Police hope that the post-mortem will provide some answers. About 60 police officers have joined the investigation.
